Horticulture Manager
A rare opportunity for a professional horticulturalist to work at one of Ontario's foremost tourism and hospitality venues. Join the garden staff at Ivy Lea Club to help maintain multiple properties that include some of the most diverse and beautiful gardens in the Thousand Island region of Ontario. These properties are located along the 1000 Island Parkway near Lansdowne and Gananoque.
We are looking for someone with both formal education in horticulture and experience in the landscape industry who can become a working supervisor who will train and work alongside our garden staff team on a day to day basis ensuring the garden related tasks are completed to a high degree of excellence. This position requires someone with a wide range of horticultural knowledge and experience. Successful applicants will have both the patience and self confidence to instruct other staff members on matters relating tothe care of the gardens.
Qualifications:
A certificate, diploma or degree in Horticulture or a certified Technician
Experience in the Landscape Industry
A valid clas G Ontario Driver's License
Duties and Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily activities for garden maintenance and instruct staff in the proper gardening methods and supervise their performance.
A working knowledge and demonstrated experience in basic garden maintenance, fertilizing, watering and preparation of perrenial garden beds and annual planters.
Be able to operate and instruct others in the safe use of power equipment such as leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and to drive and operate a small garden tractor.
Maintain cleanliness of hard surface areas such as patios, parking areas and garden paths using hand and power tools.
Working knowledge of irrigation systems and outdoor fountains is an asset.
Ability to lift at least 20 kg and work outside in all weather conditions.
This is a Full-time position from April to November.
Salary is based on experience.
