Position Overview: The City of Kitchener is seeking a permanent full-time Parks Maintainer - Turf Specialist to perform all facets of Sports field maintenance as part of a highly collaborative team, including duties such as turf management, turf renovations, integrated pest management, irrigation repairs, troubleshooting, landscaping, grading and related administration; in addition to winter maintenance duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: · Plan and organize materials, supplies, and equipment to carry out daily job assignments. · Perform various vegetation control duties and turf renovations in parks and sportsfields. · Identify and provide recommendations to supervisor for all supplementary work required to maintain sportsfields and field houses (e.g., turf renovation, additional maintenance, irrigation). · Independently monitor and assess turf conditions and identify maintenance requirements based on understanding of safety requirements, field aesthetics, playability, irrigation system, turf care, and integrated pest management (e.g.,insects, disease, nutrient requirements, drainage, wear patterns, vandalism etc.). · Operate various types of vehicles and equipment (e.g., top dressers, overseeders, loaders, mowers etc.) as required. · Repair/troubleshoot all irrigation equipment. · Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, read plans, and repair complex irrigation systems comprised of booster pumps, computer software, computer controlled field satellites, zone and control valves, electric sprinkler heads, in ground piping, filtration systems, and multi-zone stations. · Provide frontline customer service to the general public, sports associations, user groups and sports officials. · Participate in the winter job pool process which results in the winter job duties assignment i.e. snow plowing, hand shoveling etc. · Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Candidates selected for hire may be required to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract dated no earlier than 30 days prior to their hire date as a condition of employment, in addition to completing a driving skills assessment. Additional seat time and/ or training, if required, will be provided at the determination of the Supervisor, Fleet Safety and Compliance subject to management's discretion. |
