Contract Type: Permanent 

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week 

Salary: From C$65,000 per annum, depending upon education and experience 

About the Role: 

We have an exciting?purpose-driven?opportunity for?a person with the right skills and experience?to join?us as?a Survey and Horticulture Works Professional.?In this role, you will?be?responsible for the day-to-day management of the Canada and Americas Area (CAMA) Horticulture Program across the area and will assist in the delivery of the cyclical survey and works identification program and the subsequent maintenance and repair works planning for assigned CAMA and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Ontario owned Horticulture, cemeteries, structures, memorials and grave markers across the Canada and Americas operating area, including the Caribbean and Falklands.  

A typical week in this role involves?planning for the inspection of and the subsequent maintenance of your assigned horticulture portfolio and other assets across the area?and the preparation of contracting documentation in support of this work and the eventual management of the successful delivery of this work on behalf of the CWGC.? This requires considerable planning and coordination with various staff and contractors in our area and overseas, travel to those sites to monitor work and to inspect assets for coming years maintenance budgets.?  

Ensure annual horticulture Performance Quality Measurement inspections are conducted at each CAMA horticulture site.??? 

Responsible?for the upkeep and maintenance of the horticulture sites throughout CAMA, creation of survey (inspection) plans, completion of the surveys, the identification of maintenance and repair requirements in the?CAMA?Asset?Planner?system, the completion of CWGC-compliant documentation needed to ensure remedial and maintenance work can be contracted for by the CAMA Purchasing and Administration?Manager? 

Significant business travel?(approx 8 weeks per year) within the CAMA area is an essential part of the duties associated with this position?on a?seasonable basis.? The inspection cycle for the CWGC typically runs from?May-October each calendar year.? 

To be successful within this position you will have a strong working knowledge of general construction and repair methodologies, asset management principles, contracting, project management, risk management, and health and safety.  

You will be an excellent communicator in both written and spoken English with proven ability at developing good working relationships with colleagues, external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors. 

About You: 

  • To be successful?in?this position you will have?a minimum?of 3-5 years relevant work experience working in the Horticulture or Landscaping sectors.?? 
  • You will hold a?post-secondary degree or diploma in?Horticulture or horticulture science related degree, or an equivalent level of education and experience as a Horticulture/Landscape supervisor 
  • You must have permission to work in Canada immediately.??  
  • Proven experience and success managing Horticulture/Landscaping contractors and suppliers to ensure delivery of agreed services within assigned budget. 
  • Ability to work autonomously, organising work to ensure deadlines met and high standards achieved. 
  • High level of problem-solving skills with ability to propose appropriate solutions  
  • Personable, upbeat, driven, with a ‘can do, will do’ approach  
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft desktop applications and experience of, or aptitude and willingness to learn new software. 
  • A clear criminal record check is required as part of pre-employment checks
